Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. ADHD also affects many adults. It is a disorder that affects activity and development in the brain and it causes people to have difficulties with things such as paying attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. While everyone has difficulty staying focused or waiting their turn from time-to-time, these sort of problems affect people with ADHD all the time. This can make things difficult at home, at school and with friends and family.
Signs and symptoms:
- inattention (not being able to keep focus),
- hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting)
- impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought).
A person with ADHD might:
- daydream a lot
- forget or lose things a lot
- squirm or fidget
- talk too much
- make careless mistakes or take unnecessary risks
- have a hard time resisting temptation
- have trouble taking turns
- have difficulty getting along with others
